LIFE IS PRECIOUS !!.. Pastor Bob Chroninger
Trinity C.U. 1-21-01 A.M. Psalm 139:1-18
What Do You Believe? There are many today who do not believe that a baby is a baby until
it is born. Obviously different cultures have killed the unborn... and the just born (when they were not
to their liking)... and others as sacrifices to their "gods". We still believe that the Bible is the ONLY Rule
for Faith and Practice... don't we? It does have the answers to the questions of life.. "Who am I?" "Where
did I come from?" "Why am I here?" "Where am I going?"
So we can expect to find some answers about the issue called "choice" in our society....
I. THE PERSUASION....
A. Pro-abortionists have persuaded themselves, and others, that the little child growing in his or her
mother's womb is a "non-entity" until it is born and breathes.
1. The situation in Nazi Germany...
B. Pro-abortionists argue that the unborn child is "part of the mother's body"
1. Then why does the child posses a completely different genetic code"
2. Then why does the child often have a different blood type?
3. Then why does the child have it's own immune system?
4. Then why is the child a male about half the time?
C. Pro-abortionists argue that unwanted children contribute to child abuse.
1. Then why has child abuse increased from 669,000 in 1976 to 3,140,000 in 1994 ?
D. But.. "right" and "wrong" is NOT decided by a society or culture alone... there is a
HIGHER AUTHORITY !!!
1. We live at a time when very few are willing to say that some form of behavior is just plain wrong!
Prof. Robert Simon calls it "absolutophobia" (article in U.S. NEWS & WR; 7-21-97)
II. THE PRONOUNCEMENTS....
A. The Word of God...
Gen 25:22 And the children struggled together within her; and she said, If it be so, why am I thus?
And she went to inquire of the LORD. (KJV) Gen 25:23 And the LORD said unto her, Two
nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and
the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger.
Job 31:15 Did not he that made me in the womb make him? and did not one fashion us in the womb?
Psalms 139:13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. (KJV)
Psalms 139:14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works;
and that my soul knoweth right well. (KJV)
Psalms 139:15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought
in the lowest parts of the earth. (KJV)
Eccles 11:5 As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb
of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all. (KJV)
Jer 1:5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I
sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. (KJV)
Hosea 12:3 He took his brother by the heel in the womb, and by his strength he had power with God:
Luke 1:15 For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink;
and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb. Luke 1:41 And it came
to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and
Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost: (KJV)
III. THE "PROBLEMS" ??
A. What About the Need for "eugenic" Abortions?? When there is an indication or possibility of
bearing a defective or handicapped child
1. Biological imperfections do not make a person of less worth ! (Marsall & Susan, and Mandy)
Exodus 4:11 And the LORD said unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? or who maketh the dumb,
or deaf, or the seeing, or the blind? have not I the LORD? (KJV)
2. We are not called to sacrifice other human lives to avoid suffering whether theirs or ours !
B. What About The Child of Rape or Incest?
Deut 24:16 The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to
death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin.
IV. THE "PROJECTS".. Let's be For Something too....
** The pregnant teen and or adult has some very great needs...
A. Needs Love, Understanding and support during the crises..
B. Needs Christian counseling to help her better understand and cope with the guilt and shame she
will most likely feel
C. Needs help in deciding to keep the baby or offer it for adoption..
D. Needs physical and material help...
1. This is not condoning the behavior...
2. This is an effort to reach out in love.
** And Abortion Is Never "Safe" For At Least ONE HALF of Those Involved Do Die !!
A SUCCESSFUL HUMAN BEING
Marshall and Susan had a daughter they named Mandy. In God’s plan, Mandy entered
this world with a condition called microcephaly (small brain). As Marshall described her, “She
would never walk, talk, sit up or use her hands. She suffered frequent seizures. Cataracts had
to be surgically removed from her eyes when she was three months old. We never knew if she could
see or hear. Trips to medical facilities happened so frequently, we started calling these our
Club Med vacations.”
In God’s plan, Mandy lived only two years before her body was overcome by a bout with
pneumonia. But those two years were filled with the realization of God’s purposes for her. Christians
in the medical community who treated Mandy came forward to assure Marshal and Susan that they
were praying for them. She quickly became “the church’s kid,” often being passed from lap to
loving lap during the church’s worship services. Strangers would see her and inquire about her
condition, which often led to the deeper questions of Why does this happen? What can we learn from
her? Where does the strength come to care for her? Even during her last hors in the hospital, Mandy
was visited by a stream of people who sensed their need to be with her, to confess their sins, and to
draw near to God.
After Mandy died, Marshall wrote, “God’s assignment for Mandy was to live without many
of the resources I previously took for granted. But His purpose for her was as significant as for any
other... Could a sightless, wordless, helpless infant who lived to be only two years old ever be a
‘successful human being?’ If success is fulfilling God’s purposes, I consider Mandy wildly successful.”
Our human life is sacred not because of what we can do, but because of what we are. God
has dared to choose “the foolish things of the world to shame the wise... the weak things of the world
to shame the strong... the lowly things ... and the despised things... and the things that are not..
to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before Him.” 1Cor.1:27-29
