GRAND PARENTS for GOD              Pastor Bob Chroninger 
Trinity C.U.  9-10-00 A.M.  	Deuteronomy 4:1-13    		
	Welcome Grandparents!!!  The ongoing strength of the family depends upon each generation,
obviously, Godly grandparents are a vital link in the chain of Godly children and grandchildren!! 
	There are three important characteristics of being Grandparents for God.... 
I.  THEY ARE PEOPLE WHO KNOW the LORD.. 
  A. The Hebrews of Old.. 
    1. By the examples of the past.. 
	- They know the "stories" of the past..
	   - How God delivered them, provided for them, destroyed the disobedient..  4:3.. 
		Num.25:3..  24,000 died listening to Balaam 
		- Many were very young when deliverance came... 
		- Many others were born in the wilderness... 
	   - How God met with Moses on the mountain... 10 commandments 
    2. By the experiences of their present..
	- He is a Great Powerful God.. 
	   - Promising.. 4:1; Patient..;  Persistent.. 
	- He has done Great Things..
	   - Multiplied Israel greatly.. 
	   - Demonstrated His power in miracle after miracle.. 
  B. The Grandmother of Timothy..  2Tim.1:5  (mam'may) 
    1. Her faith was "unhypocritical".. 
    2. Her faith was passed on.. to Eunice (her daughter) and to Timothy 
	- Paul said that "from a child he had known the sacred writings.." 
	- Paul said that he was "well spoken of in Lystra and Iconium" Acts 16:2
 ** SAY GRANDPARENTS.. DO YOU KNOW THE LORD ???? 
II.  THEY ARE PEOPLE WHO LEAD for THE LORD..  Gen.46:7 
  A. Jacob.. going to Egypt..  took their goods and cattle... 
  B. Jacob.. "his sons and his sons' sons and his daughters" 
    1. The whole "tribe" moved from Canaan to Goshen in Egypt.. 
    2. They were all spared... 
    3. They became a great nation in Egypt...
 ** How many children will be Christians, be in heaven?? 
       How many children's children will follow Christ because of you (Me)?? 
       Throughout church history many godly men have come from godly homes !! 
III.  THEY ARE PEOPLE WHO TEACH ABOUT the LORD.. Deut.4: 
  A. Take Heed To Yourself... stay true no matter what  !!!! 
  B. Keep Your Soul Diligently.. 
    1. Lest you forget what you have seen... and what God has done.. 6:12 
    2. Lest they depart from your heart.. 
  C. Teach Them To Your Sons.. 6:2-9.. "and to your sons' sons" 
    1. Especially the commands given at Mt. Horeb... 4:13.. 
    2. Especially the covenants.. 
    3. Notice Proverbs 4:1-13.. 
	- I was my father's son..3   (look at 1:1.. the "son of David" )
	- He taught me..  vs.4 
	- Now, Hear me oh my son...  4:9,10...

GRANDPARENTS... YOU ARE A VITAL LINK IN THE CHAIN OF ONGOING CHRISTIANITY.  
     DO YOU KNOW THE LORD?? 
         ARE YOU LEADING??? 	TEACHING ??
