FROM ADDICTION to ADDICTION             
Pastor Bob Chroninger Trinity C.U.  3-7-99 P.M.                  1 Cor.16:1-24      		
 When I use the word "Addict"... what do you think about?  What or Who is an addict?  The 
 dictionary says..."to give oneself up or over to (anything) as a constant habitual practice."
 Is it possible to be addicted to good things as well as bad? 

I.  ADDICTIONS... 
  A. Many Evil Things are Addictive... 
	- pornography; stealing; rebellion; disobedience; murder; gossip; gambling; 
        slothfulness; macho image; unkindness; 
  B. Many "Good" Things Can Be Addictive.. and thus "Evil" 
    1. Drugs... good for medicine... when controlled 
    2. Sexual relations.. good within the guidelines of God 
	- but athletes who boast of their encounters.. etc. 
	- but unfaithful husbands or wives... 
	- but Teens (and others) becoming involved...
    3. Debt... good to be able to buy home... etc. 
	- Charge cards.. untcontolled = disaster (Power for Living 1-31-99) 
    4. Shopping... good to meet the needs of family... etc.
	- But.. now internet... (man cut his phone line to stop his wife) 
    5. Making Money... good to earn a living, able to give  (Eph.4:28)
	- But to be obsessed is wrong... (ever send for home work program?) 
	- But.. "Publishers' Clearing House"..(older man... $10,300) 
    6. Food... ummmm good... and necessary...  But... 
    7. Sports... Entertainment... TV... The Internet  
           (IAD) a "Web Junkie" and the list could go on and on... 

II.  DELIVERANCE... 
  A. In Desperation... turn to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior 
    1. In Repentance toward God 
    2. In Faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ   (Acts 20:21) 
  B. In Dependence... turn from the old man to the new man.. (Eph.4:17-32) 
    1. You should not continue to walk as others (in addictive situations) 
    2. You need to be renewed in the spirit of your mind  (Eph.4:23) 
    3. You must "put off the old man"; and "put on the new man" (Eph.4:22,24)
  C. In Dedication... turn it all over to Jesus !! 

III.  ADDICTION... 1Cor.16:15 
  The word is used... "appointed" Mt.28:16; Acts 22:10; 28:23; "set" (under authority) Lu.7:8; "ordained" the powers that be.. Ro.13:1; and "ordained" to eternal life.. Acts 13:48; "determined" Acts 15:2 
  A. To sound doctrine... 1Cor.16:13 "stand fast in the faith" 
  B. To mature behavior... "quit you like men".. behave maturely 
  C. To moral purity..  (1Thes.4:3-8) 
  D. To continuing ministry... household of Stephanas.. vs.15 
    1. Genuinely converted... "firstfruits of Achaia" 
    2. Addicted themselves... 
    3. Saw and met needs.. that others had neglected..  vs.17 
    4. Refreshed Paul.. and others at Corinth.. vs.18 
 ** It does seem that we will be "addicted" in one way or another....
    Let's seek deliverance from evil and even good things that addict... 
	TO WHAT ARE YOU ADDICTED ???
LET'S "ADDICT" OURSELVES TO THAT WHICH COUNTS FOR ETERNITY !!
