Incarnation investigation series

#1 Overview of series and focus on John 1:1-18 as an introduction.

Introduction: Beginning a series this Christmas season called “Incarnation Investigation”. What we will be doing is investigating the story of the birth of Christ and focusing on different subjects that surround this true story. Today will be an introduction but let me give you a quick overview of what we’ll be investigating in the weeks to follow.

Transition: Turn with me to John chapter one as we begin an introduction to the incarnation. As we go through this passage we’ll find answers to questions like, “What is the incarnation?” “What significance does the incarnation have in my life?” What was God doing coming to earth as a baby? And so on. Before we get started let me point out the purpose for John’s writing. John 20:30-31.

I.                    Go through verses 1-18 explaining what this passage is saying and meaning. Keeping in mind the truth in their town.

II.                Implications of the Incarnation.

1.      The incarnation reveals a person. So the core of our relationship with God does not rest in a religious philosophy. It is in a person Jesus Christ.

2.      The incarnation is a perfect demonstration of God’s love. He is so interested in our eternal well being, he is so passionate about our soul, that He has provided one way to be connected to Him. One way for our sin to be cleansed. One way for our messed up lives to be transformed. He has revealed the all absolute and complete road to Redemption. It is His Son Jesus the Christ.

Multiple avenues to God is a deception and lie. God has not provided a value menu in which we can choose multiple paths to be saved. That would be a demonstration of hate not grace upon grace. A variety of way to God is an influence of our consumer culture. It would be destruction to our soul if God gave us multiple choices to have a relationship with Him. Our lives would be consumed with worry if I picked the right way. Did I choose the right road? Is there a better easier road? Perhaps Buddha is more convenient for my busy life style? There is simply no hope and peace in multiple ways to God. And God has loved us so much that he provided the Way, The Word, The Light, The Truth, The Life which is His Son Jesus Christ.

III.             Identification with Incarnation

1.      Our culture and world is in a condition much like that which was leading up to Christ’s Birth.

A.     We are religious but not Godly.

B.     We are reasoning but not receptive.

C.     We are anticipating but not active.

D.     Seeking spirituality but not sanctification.

E.      We are fluffy instead of faithful.

F.      We are whiners but not witnesses.

Closing: In light of the incarnation or the first coming of Christ I cannot help but wonder how soon will be His second coming. Will today be the day the Jesus returns for His bride the Church?
