Trinity C.U. 4-15-01 A.M. John 5:16-30
Do YOU believe in a "resurrection"? Some, in Jesus' day, said there was no resurrection.
(Mt.22:23-32) And others, later, in Paul's ministry said the same things. (1Cor.15:12) Some said
that the resurrection was past already.. (2Tim.2:18) Some today believe they are coming back in
some other form. Some think that only the "righteous" will experience a resurrection. Let's see
what the Bible says....
I. BEFORE CHRIST.. A Resurrection Was...
A. In The Thoughts of Job..
1. "If a man die, will he live again?" Job 14:12
2. "I know that my redeemer liveth.. and in my flesh..." Job 19:25-27
B. In The Experiences of Moses..
1. At the "burning bush".. God declared He was the "God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob" Ex.3:6,15,16
2. Jesus referred to this.. made it clear God is God of the living.. Mk.12:26,27; Luke 20:37; Mt.22:31,32
C. In The Songs of The Psalmist..
1. You will not leave my soul in sheol (grave) Ps.16:10
2. You will not suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.. 16:10
3. You will quicken me again and bring me up from the depths of the earth. Ps.71:20
D. In The Predictions of The Prophets..
1. Hosea.. 13:14 I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death,
I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction: repentance shall be hid from mine eyes. (KJV)
2. Daniel.. Daniel 12:2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting
life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
WELL.. THE RESURRECTION WAS CERTAINLY BELIEVED AT THAT TIME !!!
II. DURING CHRIST.. (On Earth)
A. Jesus Believed It..
1. He believed in the resurrection of the just.. unjust.. and rewards.. Luke 14:14 And thou shalt be blessed;
for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just. (KJV)
John 5:28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear
his voice, John 5:29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life;
and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation. (KJV)
2. He believed in His Own Resurrection..
- He showed to His disciples that He would be killed & raised up.. Mt.16:21; 17:23; 20:19; 26:32
- He said He would rise again!! John 2:19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple,
and in three days I will raise it up. (KJV)
- The Pharisees had heard Him.. and remembered.. Mt.27:63
- He said He would "lay down His life & take it again." Jn.10:17,18
B. Martha Believed It..
1. She believed in a resurrection at the "last" day.. Jn.11:24
2. She was instructed by Jesus.. John 11:25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that
believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: John 11:26 And whosoever liveth and believeth
in me shall never die. Believest thou this? (KJV) (Those alive at His coming in the air) 1Cor.15:51,52
C. Angels Declared It..
1. Why seek ye the living among the dead.. He Is Risen! Lu.24:1
D. Disciples Were Persuaded about It.. (In spite of their discouragement, fear, sorrow, doubt..)
1. Jesus appeared to the women.. Luke 24:1-12
- Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary mother of James, and other women
2. Jesus appeared to the two on the road to Emmaus.. Lu.24:13-35
3. Jesus appeared to the ten in Jerusalem.. same evening.. Lu.24:36-43
- Thomas was not present.. Jn.20:24
4. Jesus appeared to Peter.. 1Cor.15:5
5. Jesus appeared to the eleven.. Jn.20:26
- And.. Thomas was with them this time (the next week!) Jn.20:26-29
6. Jesus appeared at the sea of Galilee.. Jn.21:1
7. Jesus appeared to above 500 at one time.. 1Cor.15:6 (Most of whom were alive at the time)
8. Jesus appeared to James.. 1Cor.15:7
9. Jesus appeared to the eleven at His ascension.. Acts 1:4-9
WELL.. THERE IS PLENTY ABOUT THE RESURRECTION AT THAT TIME!!
III. AFTER CHRIST..
A. The Preaching Of The Apostles..
1. Peter on the Day of Pentecost.. Acts 2:31
2. Peter and John after healing the crippled beggar.. Acts 3:1-11 - Preached a resurrected Christ.. 3:12-26
3. Apostles.. with great power they witnessed about the resurrection.. Acts 4:33
4. Peter to Cornelius and family.. Acts 10:4
5. Peter in his epistle.. 1Pet.1:18-21 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible
things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
(19) But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
(20) Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last
times for you, (21) Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him
glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

B. The Proclamation of The Church.. (from then until this day!)
1. The resurrection is a fundamental doctrine of Christianity.. Heb.6:2
2. The resurrection is a key doctrine of Christianity.. 1Cor.15
- If there is no resurrection (?) Then Christ is not risen and...
- Our preaching is vain.. empty.. void.. vs.14
- Our faith is vain.. vs.14
- We are false witnesses.. vs.15
- We are yet in our sins.. vs.17
- We have no hope for the future.. vs.18
- We are of all men most miserable.. vs. 19 -
BUT NOW IS CHRIST RISEN.. vs.20-21 SO WHAT...??
Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart
that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. (KJV)
Romans 10:10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession
is made unto salvation.
Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
HAVE YOU BELIEVED ?? DO YOU BELIEVE IN YOUR HEART ??
HAVE YOU "CALLED" UPON HIM ?? IF NOT... DO IT NOW !!!
