HOW TO TREAT DAD..           	 Pastor Bob Chroninger 
Trinity C.U.  6-18-00 A.M.    	 Ephesians 6:1-4  	 
	Mother's Day... Children's Day... and now Father's day.. last but not least... (hopefully)  
How we Dads conduct ourselves and relate to others... and how others relate to us makes a 
BIG difference in our society. 
	Here are some biblical pointers... How To Treat Dad... 
I.  HONOR HIM.. 
  A. Why ? The First Command With Promise.. Ex.20:12 
    1. The position appointed by God... 
    2. The promise of a better life 
  B. What? 
    1. Respect.. 
    2. Appreciation.. 
	- Recognizing his position and worth
 ** But Dad.. be a man that deserves honor.. a man of integrity.. a man of morality and decency..  
	And remember... honor can be "lost".  Prov.26:1,8 
II.  OBEY HIM.. 
  A. Who?  "Children" 
  B. What?  Obey.. 
    1. It is the right thing to do..  Eph.6:1 
    2. It is Pleasing to the Lord.. Col.3:20.. agreeable and acceptable 
    3. It is the Will of God.. Eph.6:6.. Children, Fathers, Servants.. 
	- Doing the will of God from the heart!! 
	- He that doeth the will of God abideth forever..  1Jn.2:17
 ** But Dad.. be a man whose directions can and should be obeyed! Make them reasonable,
	 moral, loving, and firm! 
III.  LOVE HIM.. 
  A. Who?  Since we are commanded to love our "brother" and our "neighbor" and ourselves, we are to love
	 our "dad" too. 
    1. Paul's instruction to women... Titus 2:3-6 
	- To the older women.. teach the younger how to love your husband... 
  B. Why? 
    1. It is God's command..  1Jn.4:7 
    2. It overlooks some imperfections.. Eph.4:2 
    3. It lifts our own spirit.. and builds relationships
 ** But Dad.. be a man who loves... God... your wife Eph.5:26,28,33 your children..  others... yourself!! 
IV.  YIELD TO HIM.. 
  A. Who? 
    1. Wife..  "submit" what a strange word in our "liberated" time.. 
	- Yield to him as the "head"..  1Cor.11:3; Eph.5:23 
	   - God's "chain of command" 
	- Yield to him as "unto the Lord".. Eph.5:22 
    2. Children.. obedience involves submission 
  B. Why? 
    1. To give honor and respect 
    2. To develop and maintain harmony 
    3. To provide a peaceful atmosphere.. 
    4. To encourage your own personal growth in responsible living.
  TREATING DAD IN THIS WAY... AS YOU CAN SEE... IS A PART OF HOLINESS!
 ** BUT DAD... YOU CAN ONLY BE THIS KIND OF MAN... IF.... 
	YOU RECEIVE CHRIST AND ALLOW HIM TO BE LORD OF YOUR LIFE
